Date News
5/31Guides: Small changes to the FlaskMpeg and Alternative Sound Recording Guides. Wrote a bit more about different audio codecs in FlaskMpeg.

Software: I read so many messages from people complaining about disappearing subtitles in FlaskMpeg. People.. this is a bug - Flasky is aware of the problem and will fix it when he has time.

5/30Software: VobDec GUI1.7 and DVTool0.21 are available in the software section. The latest VobDec GUI will now only authenticate the DVD once per session, added the option to find key and go in one step and fixed a main movie detection bug.

Guides: Small change to the FlaskMpeg Guide due to problems with the latest VobDec & Flask's Ifo parsing.

I can no longer host several versions of the same tool... usually older versions will be replaced with the latest release when that has proven to be stable. However I'll keep separate versions outside the rippacks of the most useful tools..

5/29Software: VobDec GUI 1.6 is out. No more read key and some small fixes in the underlying architecture.

A couple of weeks ago there was a discussion about FlaskMpeg not being able to handle the audio stream of the R2 release of Tomorrow Never Dies. I think I've tracked down the bug: In some cases FlaskMpeg will not chose the right sampling rate for the audio stream, even if you have checked Same as Input in the FlaskMpeg options. Therefore always check whether the sampling rate is correct - generally most movies are 48Khz. In case of doubts use a software DVD player - they can usually show you the right bitrate, or start ac3dec..

5/28Guides: Completed the new FlaskMpeg Guide. Just one little thing: Subtitles may disappear after a couple of minutes although in the player everything worked fine..

Software: VobDec GUI 1.5b is out. It allows you to extract the ac3 stream while ripping - but only if you have not selected merge when using the GO button. And Merge now works with the DVD button.

5/27The host of DivxSOURCE was contacted by the MPAA and threatened to be sued if DivXSource.com was to go online. Quite understandably the host informed us that he wouldn't take the risk of angering the MPAA - even tough the site was only destined to provide information - no software at all. If this isn't a clear breach of freedom of speech I must be living on mars. Americans... stand up an fight against the stupid DMCA.. it's stripping you of ANY fair use rights you ever had. Content providers are forced to use encryption schemes on their products and this law makes it illegal to circumvent them - however there are some exceptions to that rule and the ongoing court cases are exactly about these exceptions. Should the MPAA win.. goodbye fair use. The US would have to most strict copyright law in the world. And not only that.. the impact of the MPAA against 2600.com case - should the MPAA win - could seriously threaten your freedom of speech rights. The US like to consider themselves as the leader of the free world - but they have laws that remind me more of the 3rd Reich than of a democratic nation. Woody Harrelson once said that censorship was the beginning of the end. And he is certainly right..

Software: FlaskMpeg 0.593 and the updated Flask rippack are out. Stay tuned for the Guide..

Software: Removed a bunch of old files, and some of the files in the packs are not available separately anymore. Check the software page - I have now listed when the various packs have been updated. For now I have updated the mpeg2avi pack, the Subtitle pack and the Multiangle pack. I'll have the updated FlaskMpeg pack ready as soon as FlaskMpeg 0.593 is out which fixes the language selection bug. By then I should also have an updated FlaskMpeg Guide ready. For the moment all FlaskMpeg Downloads except for 0.592 won't work.. I've also updated the mpeg2avi Guide and the ac3 Guide is now available zipped on the software page. I also have the latest aviac3 splitter and its source code.

5/26Software: Removed DeCSS from this site. I'll let you know later why I decided to. Also... DivXSource.com is not going to happen. Thank you MPAA!

Software: VobDec GUI 1.4 and Mpeg2avi+1.1 sources are out. The GUI fixes some errors/crashes again, includes a button to rip the whole DVD in one step by pressing in the CD button and it allows you to disable multiangle handling if you want to use the latest FlaskMpeg on your movie.

Software: FlaskMpeg0.592 out - fixes the bug where encoding would go on endlessly after the movie was done. As you can see in the bugs section Dynamic Range compression will only be added at a later date - you still have to turn up the sound on your stereo..

Guides: I consider the resolution & bitrate Guide as good as done. I hope you'll like it. It contains about everything I have to say about the subject.

Also check the section to find out what's coming in the next releases of your favorite rip software.

5/25Although Apachez has beaten me to this... here's FlaskMpeg0.591 - now supports multiangle titles, subtitles and includes a deinterlacer for rff movies. I've been beta testing it and assuming the issues that were present in the beta have been fixed I can green-light this version for all movies.

I've updated the Avi/Ac3 pack - it now contains the updated mpegaudio filter and the source code.

I'll have a Guide for the latest FlaskMpeg coming this week-end. I hope you'll get along with it until then. Read the readme.htm to see what the new video options mean.

Software: VobDec GUI1.3d - should finally work with vobdec+0.31, contact the author if it doesn't. The same guy also released mpeg2avi/ac3dec/vstrip GUI0.19h which has a better vstrip GUI, auto detection for mpeg2avi and ac3dec versions, etc. I've also added the latest Quintuplets release and the source code of the AVI plugin.

Guides: Updated the VobDec FAQ. Please read if whenever you have a problem with VobDec - especially a lot of people can't get TWINE (The world is not enough) to work - that's because you haven't read my FAQ yet.

Make sure to check the updated Future section - contains some information about upcoming versions of our favorite rip tools. The complete bitrate&resolution Guide is still in the works - don't expect it before the week-end.

Has anyone checked the homepage of the avi-plug? Check the To-do list: MP3 synch fix, AC3 muxing, VirtualDub filter support, splitting by filesize... pretty much all we'd like to have... Can't wait for a release that contains all these features.

5/22New vstrip0.5d_css is out - new option g makes it strip only the GOPs of the vob file - you should still get a vob file but the video track is not there, which is quite useful as you can now also use the InterVideo audio decoder in Graphedit.

Also... DivX has apparently been ported to the Mac

Renamed the FAQ to Glossary and Frequent Errors to FAQ. Updated the FAQ. I've also made some small changes to the MDVDP Guide.

Mpeg2avi+1.1 and mpeg2avi GUI0.19f are out. The first one contains updated multiangle handling - uses VobDec code now so it should work flawlessly - the latter has been updated to include an option useful for the latest ac3dec release. I've also put RedZ DivX player 0.02 and 0.04 online. The latter doesn't work on my system... so I decided the offer the older version, too.

5/21Up.. down... up again... down again.... What's wrong with those guys at Crosswinds? Anyways my page should be safe here... but and that's a capital BUT: no downloads for the time being. This hoster won't allow me to have a 20meg software archive :( If anybody knows a place where I can safely host my site - especially my software, no banners, no questions asked about the content and no bandwidth limit - and of course not always down - then please contact me immediately.

Small updates to the AC3 Guide and as a web exclusive: The first full Guide to Micro DVD Player. Keep in mind that it's for pros only. You need to be really good at ripping before you should even start thinking about doing such things. Don't email me with beginner questions about it, I really don't have time for that..

New AC3 Direct Sound Filter - allows you to use other DirectSound filters then the one from InterVideo - and Synch.exe calculator available now - the latter even includes the source.  There's also a small avi/ac3 splitter.

Also since I don't know anything else to do with DivX there won't be any new Guides on this page for the foreseeable future. That should give me a bit of breathing room in my professional life. If there's anything you'd like me to add, don't hesitate to contact me. If you think you've found a new revolutionary method you can contact me, too and we can work something out. I'd really like other people to publish on this site, it's kind of hard to run all this as a one man show. I will of course still update the site with the latest software and news and I'll keep the Guides and rippacks up-to-date as always.

5/19DivX with AC3 soundtrack Guide and Alternative Sound Recording Guide are available.

VobDec GUI 1.3c is out. Now works with VobDec+0.31. You can also get ac3dec 0.817 and its source code. Also out now is Vobsub 1.18

Stay tuned for a Mini DVD Player Guide, including instructions for multiple languages, subtitles and other neat stuff - coming this week-end, hopefully.

Trouble playing back your DivX files? Check out this small how-to. Keep in mind that I didn't have anything to do with it. It does not necessarily reflect my suggestions for the various problems, but give it a shot if you're in trouble anyways.

5/17VobDec+0.31 and VobDec GUI 1.3b are out. Use these tools with caution, I have only thoroughly tested the betas and I'm not sure whether the finals work this time. First tries look good tough. Also, due to the restructured VobDec commands, it could be possible that the GUI doesn't work with the latest VobDec right away. I'll post more when I have some time to test.
5/15Pulled VobDec0.3+++. Apparently there's still a problem with the DODSrip integration.

Multiangle movies without hassle? It's finally possible! Thanks to the new vobdec0.3+++ you no longer need to cut and glue, simply rip the movie to your hard disk and the repeating scenes are magically gone. Other than that it has the ability to dump ac3 streams while ripping and it doesn't need you to run the DVD player anymore before ripping. A big high five to the author for this fine program.

5/14My apologies for the broken links. My hub got roasted when I was making the uploads and it's kind of hard to find a replacement at 4am on Sundays.. As you're reading this everything should work..

New Quintuplets 2000 release 2 and mpeg2avi GUI 0.19e are out.

5/14Probably the biggest update in the history of this site. New rippacks are out now, along with the updated ripping Guides. The Guides reflect an easier method for mpeg2avi using the latest mpeg2avi GUI. Furthermore I've removed all old programs from the download page and I've put up a couple of sources for all the programmers out there.

The Subtitle Guide is available now and you can download the Subtitle pack. I've also updated the multiangle pack.

VobDec GUI 0.13 and Quintuplet 2000 - DVD ripper containing VobDec code but crashes quite often for me - are available for download.

There's an additional synching method, which should be quite a bit easier if you have the necessary tools for it.

Furthermore I've considerably updated the bitrate Guide, and now it's called bitrate and resolution Guide. There's also a new page called frequent errors that tries to answer some of the problems that might arise during ripping.

In other news it appears that Microsoft got Avery Lee to remove DivX and ASF support from VirtualDub. Don't download the latest version if you want to use DivX.

Stay tuned for the launch of DivXSOURCE.com...

5/12 DivX on the Mac? Looks like some guys are working hard on it. Check out this page.
5/11 You can download MicroDVD Player1.0 right on this site now. Also visit the official homepage of the program.
5/10 Downloads will only work on my main site: http://go.to/doom9

Hosting changed again. For all those who didn't come here by my go.to address, always make sure to use go.to/doom9 as URL since the real URL tends to change. Also the software downloads don't work on some of the mirrors. New mpeg2avi GUI 0.19d - fixes all font problems - and VobDec GUI 1.2 are out - scans every vob for a key now, quite useful for those movies on which VobDec can't find the key in the first vob. MicroDVD player 1.0 is out now, too. Subtitle Guide coming soon... so stay tuned.

5/9 I misunderstood the message from my hoster but quite clearly I was about the breach their bandwidth limit in any case and some people reported problems with my site so I'm with another hoster again. New VobDecGUI 1.1 is out so grab it. It can now just scan the vobs for a key and then use it on the whole movies - useful for those movies on which VobDec doesn't find the key on each vob.
5/8 Apparently the new hoster has a bandwidth limit of 4gb which my site managed to break in just 6 hours... I'm going to have to move somewhere else.. New Vstrip0.5c_css is out and finally fixes the stupid bug of the main movie getting deleted after stripping in movies that contain just 1 or 2 vob ids. There's also a new mpeg2avi GUI which fixed the color issue and some of the font problems. I've also put up a small Guide for Tomorrow Never Dies, now you have 2 examples of how do handle a multiangle movie. I hope that is enough. Also.. work on VobDec is being done that should make this tool multiangle capable. New rippacks should be available this week.. stay tuned.
5/7 My sincere apologies for all those who downloaded corrupt zip files from this site yesterday. For reasons unknown only parts of the latest files had been uploaded to my site and I just check if the files are there usually. I moved my site to another url which should be a little faster..

Apparently the latest mpeg2avi+ also supports multiangle. It contains the decodevob code that gets rid of multiangles. Also added a few new links, updated the list of movies and the list of unflaskable movies.

5/6New mpeg2avi/ac3dec/vstrip GUI out. Now it also supports VirtualDub, and you can do a one step converting, ac3decoding and multiplexing. Together with the latest mpeg2avi - now including a small readme - it's possible to have a one step conversion, kind of. Although all processes are being done in sequence it's pretty much a foolproof thing. Keep in mind that you have to know the names for the video, ac3 and wav file in advance. You can also get DVTool0.19b2 and VobDec0.3++ which now supports -among other things: truncation by LBA, ac3 extraction, filemerging, Macrovision and region remover, and lots more. Also updated the future section.
5/5Source code for the latest mpeg2avi with CSS and audio support available.
5/3Ripping Glossary up. Keep in mind that it's a work in progress. I've also added some information about VobDec, you should read it in case you have any trouble with it. Updated the list of movies.
5/2 Another release of Vstrip and mpeg2avi is out. The latter is particularly interesting: It can read directly from DVD and it can extract the audio track (no ac3decode and muxing at the moment :(

New VobDec0.3+ out. New options: automatic detection of DVD drive, detection of region-free disks, output-file merging, time and status indications and more. Some small fixes on the multiangle Guide

5/1

Happy labor day. New

that greatly speeds up the procedure. I also put the old news to another page
