Translation guidelines for 3rd party sites

If you would like to translate documents from www.doom9.org and put them on your site you will need written permission to do so. Send an e-mail to feedback at doom9 dot org and include the following information:

• Name and URL of your site
• Your job title when it comes to abovementioned site (webmaster, etc.)
• Short description of what your site is about and what your goals are
• Provide a short overview of your target audience (site stats)
• Describe where the translated guides will be put on your site
• Give a list of documents that you would like to have translated

If you get an e-mail back granting permission to translate some documents you have to adhere to the following rules:

• Documents must keep the original title and a "- by Doom9" needs to be appended to the title. As an example the Gordian Knot guide for DivX3 should look like this:

• Documents must have a subtitle (right after the title) outlining the origin. As an example:

Content by Doom9.net - the definitive DVD backup resource. The most up-to-date version of the original document can always be found at the Doom9 site.

• Links to a translated document must have a "-by Doom9" subtitle unless they are part of a text flow (sentence). For instance:

• Links back to the Doom9 site must open a new browser window or replace the current frameset.
• You are allowed to put a credit notice at the bottom of the document (mentioning the translator and such)
• Put a timestamp on your document. This allows you to track versions and know when a document has to be updated again.
• Before the translated document goes online you are required to give us a preview. Send an e-mail to the address mentioned above giving the links that allow us to see how the documents have been integrated into your site.
• We reserve the right to use the translated documents on an official Doom9 mirror. In such a case we'll put a note at the bottom of the document giving credit to the original translator at the bottom of the document.
• You must keep your documents reasonably updated. Check for a new version once a month and update the translated document accordingly.
• You must keep the email giving you permission to translate certain documents and provide it upon inquiries by a member of the Doom9 staff.
• Do not bluntly advertise the fact that your site hosts translated Doom9 guides. Posting messages in other (competing) forums just advertising the fact that you have some new guides and not helping people out is frowned upon in most forums (and forbidden in many, including the original Doom9 forum) and therefore must not be done as it would damage your site's reputation and possibly even this site.
• Keep your site legal! We do not want to be associated with illegal activities in any way.
